The snacks which is fried in oil is like to eat from children to adults is usual. In that too, chips in banana, potato, yam are loved by everyone. We all know that these chips are prepared in hot oil in front of our eyes and keep for selling near the streets or already prepared and pack it in the polythene bags. But we didn’t know that the things which they are used for preparing chips. The reason for that we love and buy the chips is because of its crunchiness.
For increasing the crunchiness of banana and potato chips and not spoil for fastly, first they put the plastic bottle in oil which is used for frying the chips, and melt it and then they put the chips and fry from the plastic melted oil. In chips, the plastic form a layer in top and it protects the crunchiness for long days and it also protects from perishsable. As we love to buy and eat these crunchy chips, the manufacturers adopt this kind of methods to make more profit. Manufacture and sale of food stuffs by this process and cause harm to human beings is punishable under the section 272, 273 of the Indian Penal Code and according to the section 54 and 59 of the Food Safety Standards act 2006 is punishable for both the manufacturer and seller. As we are consuming continuously these kind of chips, dialysis centers and artificial insemination centers are proliferated today. This is a hindrance for government’s one of the goal good health and achieving the sustainable growth in 2030.
What are the consequences of this?
1. It causes high blood pressure, dementia and heart problems.
2. American Cancer Society states that, these type of food contain a chemical agrimide, which provoke the cancer. So it causes cancer.
3. It is one of the important causes for kidney failure.
4. Plastic affects the lungs. So it causes problem in lungs and infertility also.
5. It effects the liver, pancreas and causes nervous debility, diabetes and creates so many diseases which is incurable.
How can we prevent this?
1. As we are consumers, we should buy such food products from the person we well known, and ask them about the quality of food and instruct them to use quality oil prepare the food. If they violate, you must inform the food safety officers or send the food in laboratory which you bought and test it. If it is adulterated, inform the food safety officers and urge them to take action.
2. Manufacturers don’t do this for profit. Serve quality food for customers because they trust you. And sellers also check the food products which is quality or not.
3. Officials from Food Safety Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu should conduct inspections and check the quality of food. If it is not, take legal action against them and also create awareness among the public and owners of restaurants.
