Welcome to Earth and Health Care Council
Fish is one of the most important food item we bought daily. It contains nutrients like iodine and protein, so fish eaters can secure themselves from heart related problems and stroke. Fish is a easily perishable food thing, so some unpleasant incidents will happen in food processing.
For non-perishable purpose, fishes are preserved in refrigerator. Moreover, now-a-days, chemicals like Formalin and Sodium Benzoate are used in fish processing for non-perishable purpose for more days. In Mortuary, a chemical formaldehyde is used for preserving dead bodies. The chemical Formalin is a water-based saturated solution of Formaldehyde gas. Presently, Formalin is mix with water and rub the body of fish for preserving fish for more days.
The inclusion of such chemicals in food is prohibited under the Food Safety and Standards Regulation 2011, and our Government of India has made a policy to prevent the mixing of such harmful chemicals into fish in accordance with the National Fisheries Policy 2020.
Consequences:
1. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (ARC) is an organization under the World Health Organization (WHO) classifies the Formaldehyde and declared that it will cause cancer. Mostly it cause cancer in throat and neck.
2. It causes problems in liver, Kidney even heart failure also will happen.
3. It causes irritation in eyes, skin, throat and stomach.
Ways to prevent:
1. If the Formalin is used in Fish flies didn't siege it. If you notice that or if you have any doubt go to a shop and buy a test kit which is made of paper and test it. The price of this test kit is just two rupees. Otherwise, filed a petition and pay the relevant fee to the food inspection center and handover the fish which you bought. If the test is found to be positive then immediately report it to the Food Safety Department and urge them to take action.
2. Traders and fishermen don't do this business for profit. Regarding the health of people, don't use formalin, instead, use the ice cubes and freezers for fish processing.
3. If our government and food safety authorities systematically inspect the markets and carry out their duties very well, our next generation can live without disease.
